Want to finally get the results you want in your life? In fact, are you fed up not getting the results in your life? Ones that you secretly know you're capable of? Do you want to know how to finally get more consistent results in your life? Then read on, as avoiding these three key mistakes are the keys everyone needs to succeed.
Mistake No. 1: Not Defining What Exactly You Want
You need to know what you're aiming at. Ever worked on a project with a poorly defined outcome? Did it deliver? No? No surprise there, then! And it's the same with life. Unless you define what you want, and do that precisely, you have little chance of getting it.
Heard the hackneyed phrase 'Fail to plan, plan to fail?' What's important here is that if you don't know what you're aiming at you'll only be successful accidentally. If you want more consistent results, you have to know what you want.
So the bottom line to avoid this mistake: decide what you want. It doesn't have to be a huge thing. You don't even need to go over the top with goal setting. But knowing what you want is the first step to getting there. To paraphrase the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, "If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there."
Mistake No. 2: Not Having At Least Some Plan
Procrastination and perfectionism can be problems for a lot of people. Some won't take action in their life until they are sure it will work. And that's a recipe for disaster quite honestly. Any plan, even a poor one, is better than nothing. It gets you started.
If you don't have a plan, you most likely won't get any results. Then you'll stay precisely where you are. The key to getting better results, as long as you know what your aim is, is to take action based on a plan. If your plan isn't perfect - that's OK, you can refine it based on your results.
This is fundamental as if you don't have a plan you won't get anywhere. Think about it like this. Tonight you fancy a nice meal - steak, beans and dauphinoise potatoes. You visualise it so clearly your mouth is watering. But you have no plan to buy the ingredients. Guess what happens?
Precisely nothing. You will have no meal of steak tonight. Sounds crazy when you think about it like this. No one would act like this in that part of their life. But that's the way it is. So just apply this to getting what you want in life. It works the same way.
So just work out what the very next step towards your goal is. It often doesn't have to be a full end to end plan, just as long as you know what the next step is. Once you take that step, subsequent steps may be clearer.
Mistake No. 3: Not Taking Consistent Action
This is probably the one I see most often. Consistent action towards your goal - whatever it is - is vital. Taking one action one time will get you nowhere. It's evident that this doesn't work in any other area of your life, so why do so many people not take consistent action towards their life goals?
This is fundamental - as the lack of consistent action means you'll throw away any progress you've made in defining your goal and taking the first step. You need to understand this spells the difference between success and failure. Because if you don't, you won't get anywhere. Babies know this intuitively. When a baby learns to walk, they take consistent action. They don't just try it once then give up on walking. They persevere - they try again and again. That's what's needed for success in every part of your life.
How Do You Take Consistent Action?
The easiest way is by having a system that encourages you to take consistent action towards your goals. A process that feels natural and fits into your life. You could hire a coach - that's probably the best and fastest way to make progress.
But, being realistic, not everyone can afford, say £400 ($500) a month to achieve their goals. And that's where my new book comes in. It supports you in defining what you want, then taking consistent action towards your goals.
